The Law of Attraction — Why Wanting Is Not Enough

The Law of Attraction is the most widely known of the twelve universal laws.
It is also the most widely misapplied — which is part of why so many people have dismissed it as wishful thinking, and why so many of those who have earnestly practised it have found the results inconsistent at best.
The dismissal is understandable. The popular version of this law — think positively, visualise your desires, feel as if they have already arrived, and they will come — is an incomplete picture that mistakes the decoration for the foundation. It works for some people some of the time, which is enough to sustain the mythology, but not enough to explain why the same sincere practice produces transformative results for one person and nothing for another.
The deeper version is more demanding and considerably more useful.
What the law actually states
Like attracts like. You pull in what you radiate.
The operative word is radiate — not want, intend, or visualise. What you radiate is not your conscious intention. It is the totality of your internal broadcast: your beliefs, including the ones you have never examined; your emotions, including the ones you suppress; your self-image, including the parts of it formed before you had any say in the matter; and the actual felt sense of your relationship with what you say you want.
The universe — the field, in the language of the Law of Divine Oneness — does not receive your stated intentions. It receives your signal. And your signal is the sum total of who you are being, not just who you are trying to be.
This means you cannot attract beyond your current frequency (see the Law of Vibration), and you cannot attract beyond the correspondence of your internal world (see the Law of Correspondence). The Law of Attraction is not a standalone principle. It is the output of the system — what arrives as a result of the signal you are broadcasting across all dimensions of your being.
The subconscious gap
Here is where the real work lives.
Most people who engage with the Law of Attraction do so at the level of conscious intention. They decide what they want, they focus on it, they attempt to align their thoughts and feelings with it. This is genuine effort and it is not wasted — conscious intention is part of the picture.
But the signal is not generated only by the conscious mind. The subconscious — the operating system beneath awareness, formed through formative experiences, inherited beliefs, adaptive patterns, and the accumulated weight of everything you have come to believe about yourself and the world — is broadcasting continuously and powerfully.
When the conscious intention and the subconscious broadcast are aligned, attraction is strong and consistent. When they are in conflict — when you consciously want something that your subconscious does not believe is available to you, safe for you, or consistent with your identity — the subconscious generally wins. Not because it is more powerful in some mystical sense, but because it is running continuously, while the conscious intention is practised for ten minutes in the morning.
The intervention, therefore, is not louder wanting. It is honest examination of the subconscious signals that are operating below the surface of the conscious desire.
Becoming the match
There is a phrase that captures the shift required: become the match.
Rather than asking How do I attract this? — the more useful question is Who do I need to be in order to be genuinely compatible with this?
This is an identity question. It is asking you to examine the gap between your current self-concept and the version of yourself that would naturally inhabit the life you are calling in. Not as a performance, not as an affirmation — but as a genuine, sustained shift in who you are at the level of belief, self-worth, and habitual way of relating to the world.
This is deeper and slower work than visualisation. It is also far more durable in its results.
The person who has genuinely done this work does not experience attraction as effortful. They experience it as natural — as the field responding coherently to a coherent signal. Things arrive that match who they actually are, because that is what the law does, without exception.
Common blocks to attraction
Several internal conditions reliably suppress the attractive force, regardless of the sincerity of conscious wanting.
Divided intention. Wanting two things that are genuinely incompatible at the frequency level — security and radical change, for instance, or visibility and safety — creates an incoherent broadcast that the field cannot clearly respond to.
Self-worth ceiling. Believing that what you want is available in principle but not specifically available to you — because of who you are, where you came from, what you have or haven’t earned — acts as a hard ceiling on what arrives. This is one of the most common and most invisible blocks.
Fear as the dominant signal. Wanting something from a primary motivation of fear — wanting success because failure is terrifying, wanting connection because loneliness is unbearable — broadcasts the fear more powerfully than the desire. The field responds to the dominant signal.
Unprocessed resistance. The emotional charge around an area of desire — the grief, the anger, the fear that accompanies it — does not disappear because it is not consciously expressed. It continues to broadcast. Working with that charge, rather than bypassing it, is often the clearing that allows attraction to function.
A reflection to sit with
Choose something you have genuinely wanted for a while that has not yet arrived.
Ask honestly: What do I actually believe about whether this is possible for me? Not what you hope, not what you tell yourself — what you actually, quietly, in unguarded moments, believe.
That belief is your current signal in that domain. And beliefs, unlike circumstances, can change.
